Strands are made from nylon or dacron cord with plastic pony beads and metallic tone plastic accent beads and 3 Indian brass bells (NOT plain jingle bells).

Rhythm beads add a little extra “bling” and a some pleasant music to your ride. Use of my strands as a “Progress String” or neck rope for bridleless riding is not a recommended practice as it may put undue stress on your beads and the bells tied to them. The bells are solid brass bells made in India and are 2 different sizes, one medium and 2 small. My strands do NOT have beads the full length of the cord. I have found that I prefer this difference over others out there. If you would like custom strands with full length beads please contact me. I can also add more bells and/or use tiny belly dancing style bells if you would prefer something even a bit more unique.

Recommendations and Product Care

The strand should should fit comfortably around the horse’s neck without making contact with any other equipment. My strands usually are long enough to have a little bit extra on the tail if you need to tie to a piece of mane or to a ring on the front of your saddleand most are close to 60 inches long. Nylon cord or Dacron marine cord with a 1/8" diameter is used to ensure that your rhythm beads will last, as well as plastic beads. If your beads get dirty just gently wash in warm water with a mild detergent. The cord may get stiff when drying but should loosen up again. If you want/need a clip to use at the withers to keep your strand in place, please let me know. I prefer to tie my strand on with a little chunk of the mane and not rely on another piece of hardware. Please be sure to desensitize your horse to your strand with groundwork before tying it on. Some horses may not be used to the sounds and feel of them at first.

Rhythm beads have many purposes. Other trail users may be able to hear horses coming from greater distances from the bells. Companion dogs on the trail can locate their horse and human from the jingling. The bells may help the horse become more focused and help it relax. By becoming more relaxed, the horse may let down and learn to listen to the rider more. Riders can use the cadence of the bells to unite themselves with the horse in addition to feeling it through seat, legs, and hands. Beginner riders can also benefit by hearing the horse’s rhythm and learning to synchronize with it. The bells may encourage the horse to run more powerfully and quickly, possibly improving finishing times in various timed events, and not because they are afraid of the bells.
